SPRING STORM: This is what greeted a motorist approaching downtown Youngstown at Spring Commons 70 years ago, on April 6, 1938. The billboards at right advertised movies playing at the Paramount Theater a few blocks to the east. Youngstown was hit by five inches of snow and some freezing rain, which not only snarled traffic, but was said to have damaged fruit trees that had begun to bud and confused birds that had already fallen into a spring routine.
