Struthers Rotary will host gala for Brazilian visitors
STRUTHERS — Rotary District 6650 (Ohio) is hosting District 4620 from Brazil this month, and the Struthers Rotary will provide a gala dinner program from 6 to 10 p.m. April 17 at The Georgetown on South Avenue, Boardman.
The evening will include authentic Brazilian cuisine and music, and the team from Brazil also will offer presentations. Tickets cost $25 per person, and the evening is open to the public. For more information, contact Jerry Haber, past Rotary International district governor, at (330) 540-3112.
Ursuline students plan event to help homeless
YOUNGSTOWN — The 19th Annual Wake-A-Thon for the homeless will begin at 9:30 p.m. April 12 at Ursuline High School and will end at 7 a.m. the next day. The Home and School Association and the Student Council sponsor the event.
Students will solicit contributions, and in return, agree to stay up all night, participating in planned, supervised activities, including a dance, prayer service, talent show, games and Mass.
Snacks and soft drinks, pizza and hot sandwiches will be served throughout the night, all donated by parents and local businesses.
Funds will go to the Rescue Mission, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Beatitude House.
Donations may be given to an Ursuline student or mailed to Wake-A-Thon, Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505. Make checks payable to Ursuline Wake-A-Thon. For more information, call the school at (330) 744-4563.
Blood drives discussed at Ruritans meeting
GREENFORD — The importance of blood drives and the need for more donors was discussed at the March 31 meeting of Greenford Ruritan Club. Speaking on the subject was Denise Brindle, donor recruitment representative for the Northern Ohio Region of the American Red Cross.
The Ruritans planned a blood drive to be held April 14 at Greenford Christian Church.
Bill Pitts presided at the meeting, and Larry Bennett, past president, inducted John Ray, Von Wolfe and Dean Slagle into membership. Dinner was served by the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
The club will meet again April 28 at Greenford Lutheran Church.
