Sisters of the Humility of Mary plan several Earth Day events


VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Sisters of the Humility of Mary will integrate spirituality with conservation, education and experiences of the land during programs for Earth Day, April 22.

Various Earth Week events, education and activities are scheduled at Villa Maria Community Center and will be sponsored by the Ministry of EcoSpirituality and EcoJustice. They are:

U“Land of Blessing” from 1 to 5 p.m. April 19 in the Woods Pavilion at Villa Maria Community Center. Grace Williams of the Nanticoke tribe will share stories of her native culture and heritage. The celebration will also include a reflection on “Who Will Speak for the Land?” by Frank Romeo, director emeritus of Villa Maria Land Management.

U“Ecological Footprints” from 1 to 5 p.m. April 26 at Woods Pavilion. Sister Barbara O’Donnell will review the UN Earth Charter: Values and Principles for a Sustainable Future. Attendees will be invited to join in hayrides, farm tours and a healing drum circle.

U“Community, Creation and Climate Change” from 1 to 5:30 p.m. April 27. Dr. Leanne Jablonski will invite participants into a dialogue dealing with the facts related to the Great Lakes area and the global community. She will offer suggestions and resources for networking and future action.
