Raschilla, Nick Gatta power McDonald past Girard, 13-8


Ben Habuda and Billy Noel were top hitters as Struthers beat Brookfield twice.

STRUTHERS — Anthony Raschilla homered, doubled and drove in three runs Saturday to lead the McDonald High baseball team to a 13-8 victory over Girard at Cene Park.

Nick Gatta doubled, tripled, singled and drove in two for McDonald, which scored 10 runs over the final three innings.

Alex Baker had three hits and two RBIs.

For Girard (1-3), Marty Brinker had three hits, including two doubles, and Aaron Jennings added two hits and two RBIs.

Struthers 4-20, Brookfield 2-3

STRUTHERS — Ben Habuda’s two hits included a triple for the Wildcats in the opener.

Dom Lariccia doubled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Winning pitcher John Rhoads (1-0) struck out six batters and walked one.

Pat Mulligan took the loss for the Warriors.

In the second game at Cene Park, Billy Noel’s three hits included a double and drove in three runs.

Habuda tripled. Vince Vitucci and Tyler Serich each had two hits including doubles. Brian Palmer also had two hits for the Wildcats (2-1).

Ursuline 11-14, Springfield 4-4

NEW MIDDLETOWN — In the first game, Ross Revella had three hits including a double, Mark Lapikas had two hits including a triple and three RBIs while Nick McGahagan had a double and two RBIs for Ursuline.

Junior Bryan Visingardi went 3-for-3 for two RBIs and junior Travis Richey doubled for Springfield.

In the second game, which went six innings due to the 10-run rule, Paul Cene had a home run and three RBIs.

Also the Irish, Revella had three RBIs, Shawn Roman had two hits and two RBIs and Alex DeMario had two hits and a pair of RBIs.

Richey had two hits including a double and junior Todd Kibby double for Springfield (3-2).

Mooney 6, NDCL 5

CLEVELAND — Anthony Franceschelli’s bases-loaded hit scored Scott Smith and Drew Fitzpatrick to lift the Cardinals (3-1), who sent five players to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.

Brad Byers finished with three hits and got the win in relief.

For Notre Dame/Cathedral Latin (2-1), Matt Snyder and Rob Searles had two hits apiece.

Columbiana 10-14, Jackson-Milton 0-0

COLUMBIANA — Freshman Jeff Davidson tossed a six-inning no-hitter in the first game, striking out eight and walking two, to lead the Clippers. Josh Weikert had two doubles, while Eric Kissel and Jeff Davidson each had two hits and three RBIs.

In the second game, Robb Barbado struck out 10 through four innings and combined with Josh Saverko on a two-hitter. Josh Herald had two hits and three RBIs for the Clippers (3-2).

Jackson-Milton is 0-3.

Hubbard 6-5, Harding 4-0

WARREN — In the first game, John Madeline and Corey Hitt both had two hits for the Eagles.

In the second game, Hubbard senior Mike Carnahan had a three-run homer in the seventh inning.

In his first varsity start, sophomore Dan Helsel gave up all four hits before Tim Schiraldi pitched three scoreless innings.

Helsel had two strikeouts.

Hubbard is 3-0; Harding is 0-3.
