Padgitt’s home run fuels Boardman
Fitch split with West Geauga, and Poland won a pair of games.
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Junior Lizzie Padgitt hit a solo home run Saturday to lead the Boardman High softball team to a 2-0 win over Springfield.
Kelsey Ford had an RBI double and junior Shannon Morrow had a pair of singles for Boardman (2-0).
The Spartans had six hits.
Ford, a senior, struck out nine and didn’t issue a walk in pitching a one-hitter.
Shala Maldonado singled for Springfield (0-3).
W. Geauga 6-1, Fitch 3-8
AUSTINTOWN —In the first game, Samantha Kozbial had a double and RBI while Katie O’Loughlin and Kayla Mazerik also had RBIs.
Stephanie Berdis, Haley Martinelli, Jena Baun and Kate Ferree added singles for the Falcons.
In the second game, Fitch took a 5-0 lead after three innings.
O’Loughlin had a home run and single for three RBIs, Ferree tripled and had an RBI and Berdis and Martinelli had two singles.
Ursuline 6, Western Reserve 3
BERLIN CENTER — Winning pitcher Casey Lower (3-0) retired the final 17 batters she faced. She struck out 10 batters and walked none.
Kasey Foley had two hits and two RBIs for the Irish (3-0). Also with two hits were Miranda Carkido, Nikka Bonamase and Mary Alexander.
For the Blue Devils (2-1), Heather Monoski had two hits.
Poland 12, GlenOak 0
POLAND — Allyson Kennedy and Jenna Medina each had three hits including a double as Poland rolled to a 5-inning win over GlenOak.
Jordan Palumbo tossed a six-hit shutout in picking up her first victory for the Bulldogs (2-0).
Jessica D’Apolito also doubled for Poland.
Poland 5, Massillon Perry 1
POLAND — Allie Patton had two doubles and drove in two runs as Poland won its third straight against Perry.
Jordan Palumbo and Liz Maher each had two hits for the Bulldogs (3-0), while Maher also tossed a five-hitter to pick up her second win of the year.
Sebring 5-7, Malvern 0-2
SEBRING — Kirsten Schaffer tossed a one-hitter in the first game, striking out four and walking four. Bianca Burwell singled in the sixth inning to break up the no-hitter.
Sara Caddell, Jacqui Zmuda and Dani Seidel doubled while Jillian Faubree and Ashley Smith each had two hits.
In the second game, Seidel, Burwell and Malvern’s Christina Mayle doubled. Schaffer (3-0) was the winning pitcher while Chantel Fox had three hits. Sammi Reggi had two hits and scored twice.
