YOUNGSTOWN — Minority Health Expo 2008 is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 and 26 at Everlife Worship Center, 474 Early Road. The free event will feature Dr. Luther “Skip” Rosemond of Detroit, who is on “The Tom Pope Show.” Health screenings, vendors and refreshments will be featured. Shenango Lake cleanup
CLARK, Pa. — Shenango Lake will conduct the annual cleanup of recreation and access areas April 26 in conjunction with “Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful” day. MetroParks’ kite event
CANFIELD — Mill Creek MetroParks will celebrate spring’s arrival April 26, when kites of all colors, shapes and sizes dance across the sky above the MetroParks Farm. Members of the Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites and Fly Pittsburgh will display their collections and flying skills from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will also judge games and contests for the public and share their knowledge with visitors.
The contests offer separate divisions for handcrafted and manufactured kites. In the handcrafted division, prizes based on craftsmanship, creativity and flying skills will be awarded for largest and smallest kites and for best in show. Manufactured kites will be judged for highest flying, longest tail and best novice sport flyer.
All kites must fly to be eligible for judging. Wind sprints will be done in four age groups. The farm is on state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Roof-renovation bids
NORTH LIMA — Bids for renovations to the roof at the Beaver Township Safety Building, 601 W. South Range Road, will be opened during a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 14 at the township administration office, 11999 South Ave. The township trustees’ regular monthly meeting will begin at 6 p.m. April 14 at the administration office. Decorating vets’ graves
YOUNGSTOWN — City historian Steffon W. Jones is seeking volunteers to help form a team to put American flags on veterans’ graves at Oak Hill Cemetery before Memorial Day. The deadline for the team is May 7. If interested, call Jones at (330) 727-3262 or (330) 744-2248. Jones has portrayed a member of the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War at schools and churches around the area.
