Mill Creek plans annual Kite Day
CANFIELD — Mill Creek MetroParks will celebrate Kite Day on April 26, with kites of all colors, shapes and sizes filling the sky above the MetroParks Farm.
Members of the Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites and Fly Pittsburgh will display their collections and flying skills from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will also judge games and contests for the public and share their knowledge with visitors. Vendors will be on hand for anyone who wants to repair or upgrade a kite or collection.
The contests offer separate divisions for handcrafted and manufactured kites. In the handcrafted division, prizes based on craftsmanship, creativity and flying skills will be awarded for largest and smallest kites and for best in show.
Manufactured kites will be judged for highest flying, longest tail and best novice sport flyer. Sport flying involves using the kite to draw figures in the air such as a figure eight, square or circle. Judging is based on skill and precision. All kites must fly to be eligible for judging. Wind sprints will be done in four age groups.
The farm is on state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fairgrounds.
