McDonald relay team sets meet record


MINERAL RIDGE — McDonald’s 4x200-meter relay team set a meet record with a time of 1:34.2 and the Blue Devils easily outdistanced second-place Edgewood 105-88 for the boys team title at Saturday’s Joe Lane Invitational at Mineral Ridge High School.

The Blue Devils also won the 4x800 and 4x400 relays and Devon Colburn earned an individual victory in the 300 hurdles.

Lordstown’s Ryan Pal set a meet record in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches. He also won the 110 hurdles while teammate Tykie Theofilos won the 400 as the Red Devils placed third.

JFK’s Matthias Tayala won the discus while Mike Perisa won the 800 for the Eagles. Wellsville’s Jeff Hanselman won the long jump while teammate Nate Carman won the shot.

Mathews’ Mike Davis won the 100, and the Mustangs also won the 4x100 relay.

On the girls side, Mineral Ridge senior Nicole Honsaker won the 100, 200 and 400 to help lead the Rams to the team title.

Warren JFK senior Audrey Maheu set a meet record in the 800 (2:22.60) and also won the 1600, helping the Eagles place second. Maheu set the state record en route to winning the 800 at last year’s state meet. JFK also won the 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

McDonald won the 4x100 and 4x800 relays and Lindsey Repp won the 300 hurdles to help the Blue Devils finish third.

Lordstown’s Kayla Ellks won the long jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Ward Invitational

EAST PALESTINE — The Warren Harding 4 x 200 meter relay team of Marvin Logan, Mitchell Seawood, Joseph Threats and DeAver Williamson established a new meet and stadium record of 1:30.89 at the 2008 William E. Ward Invitational.

Seawood was selected the running events MVP while Boardman’s Caleb Matthews received the same honor for field competitors.

Boardman won the meet with 128.3 points. Next were Poland (56), Warren Harding (55) and Canfield (46).
