U.N. ratifies charter protecting disabled


GENEVA (AP) — A U.N. convention to protect the rights of the world’s disabled people has been ratified by enough countries to take effect, the U.N. rights chief said Friday.

Ecuador’s approval Thursday brought to 20 the number of countries ratifying the charter, meaning it will become legally binding in those countries May 3.
