Seventh-inning rally lifts Canfield past Boardman

CANFIELD — Dan Banna hit an RBI single to score Tom Cheslik with the game-winner in the seventh inning as the Canfield High baseball team rallied to beat Boardman 4-3 on Friday at Cene Park.

Mark Carrocce reached on an error to open the inning and Jared Turocy and Cheslik followed with back-to-back doubles to set up Banna’s hit. Cheslik had two hits and three RBIs and Turocy had two hits for the Cardinals (2-0).

Dean Porter was 3-for-3 with a triple and Mike Popio had two hits for Boardman.

Mooney 10, Lisbon 0

STRUTHERS — Bret Morales and Mike Piesto combined to pitch a four-hitter for Mooney. Scott Smith had three hits for Mooney (2-1), while Drew Fitzpatrick had two hits and Matt Durkin had a triple.

Lucas Rambo doubled for Lisbon (1-1).

Campbell 15, Lowellville 11

STRUTHERS — Eligio Bonilla went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, Danny Sacui doubled twice and drove in three runs and Juan Miranda (1-0) pitched three innings of scoreless relief and scored three runs for Campbell (1-0), which benefited from 15 walks.

Vince Travaline had three hits for the Rockets (0-3).

Champion 12, Girard 1

STRUTHERS — Joe Cvengros pitched a four-hitter and also had three hits and three RBIs offensively for Champion (2-0, 1-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Nathan King had two hits and three RBIs, Andrew Beachy had two hits and two RBIs and David Palm and Bill Yartz each had two hits.

Marty Brinker had an RBI single and Matt Houser singled and scored for Girard (1-2, 1-1).

Hubbard 6, Niles 4

NILES — Tim Schiraldi doubled and drove in two runs and Mike Carnahan triple, scored and drove in a run to lead Hubbard on Thursday. Mike Livi doubled and drove in two runs for Niles.

Lisbon 6, South Range 6, suspended

LISBON — The Blue Devils (1-0) and Raiders (0-1) were tied when the game was suspended after the eighth inning.

For South Range, Isaac Melnik doubled twice to drive in two runs and Steve Bensinger had two hits.

For Lisbon, Dustin Borg hit two doubles while Matt Wilson had two hits and two RBIs.

A date for the completion of the game has not been set.
