Six-run first inning helps lead Ursuline past Struthers, 8-6
Sarah Ingalls homered twice for McDonald in a win over Wellsville.
STRUTHERS — Anna Donko had three hits and three RBIs to lead Ursuline past Struthers, 8-6, in a high school softball game Thursday.
Kasey Foley added two hits, including a double, and Sara Marr singled twice for the Irish (2-0), who scored six runs in the first inning. Kacey Lower pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
Struthers (2-1) was led by Samantha Ditman, who hit a three-run homer. Dominique Martino had two hits, including a two-run double, and Ashley Baron singled twice.
Lowellville 6, Campbell 0
LOWELLVILLE — Cori Pavlicko pitched a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 10, to lead the Rockets (2-1).
Shawna McDowell had three hits for Lowellville, including a double, and she scored two runs. Ashley Harkleroad added two singles and Stephanie Gruber had a RBI double.
Jamie Dolan hit a double and single to lead Campbell.
Fitch 13, Warren Harding 0
WARREN — Jena Baun had three hits and Kate Ferree added two for the Falcons (1-0). Heidi Soriano (1-0) and Kara Roche combined on a five-inning one-hitter.
Mooney 3, Springfield 2
BOARDMAN — With Springfield leading, 2-0, Mooney’s Kristen Stahl doubled and Cheryl Guyer had a bunt single to fuel a bottom-of-the-third rally as the Cards won their second game.
As the inning continued, Stahl scored on a fielder’s choice before Guyer tied the game, 2-2, on Meghan Williams’ sacrifice fly. Kelcie Herberger’s squeeze bunt scored Katie Hughes with the go-ahead run.
Guyer, Stahl and Krissy Cormell — all seniors— finished with two hits apiece for Mooney.
A three-hitter by sophomore Chrissy Porter included nine strikeouts.
Erica Burkey had an RBI double for Springfield (0-2).
Hubbard 8, Niles 0
NILES — Gabby Flynn pitched a one-hit shutout and had two hits offensively to lead Hubbard (1-0), which had 12 hits.
McDonald 11, Wellsville 0
McDONALD — Sarah Ingalls had three hits, including two over-the-fence home runs, and drove in seven to lead McDonald in an Inter Tri-County League Tier Two game.
Kaitlin Rutushin tossed a two-hitter over five innings, striking out 11 and walking three, for the Blue Devils (2-0). Rutushin also had three hits, while Alyssa Hutzler and Kirtan Tayala had two hits apiece.
Rachel Vallera had two hits for Wellsville.
Girard 6, Badger 0
GIRARD — Katie Noday tossed a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and no walks for Girard (1-1), which scored all six runs in the third inning. Missy Weitzman had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, Chelsea Guerrieri had two hits, Megan McCale had two hits and Ashley Isolbi had two RBIs.
Kelsey Flowers walked seven and struck out four for Badger (0-1).
LaBrae 4, Streetsboro 3
LEAVITTSBURG —With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Angelica Pugh doubled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Aldridge. Amanda Witherow followed with the game-winning double.
Witherow went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for LaBrae (1-1). Jessica Hess was 2-for-4 with a double for Streetsboro (0-2).
Champion 11, Mathews 0
VIENNA — Katie Chandler had two hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs, while Katie Saluga homered and had two RBIs for Champion. Amanda Sain struck out four, pitching a two-hitter over six innings.
Northwest 6, West Branch 1
CANAL FULTON — Cali Hardy and Danielle Agnew had singles for West Branch in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Losing pitcher Kim Caruso had two strikeouts for the Warriors (0-2, 0-2 NBC).
Cassi Stover had a double and three RBIs for Northwest (2-1, 2-0).
NDCL 5, Howland 2
HOWLAND — A three-run third inning was the difference as Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (1-0) turned back the Tigers (0-2) Wednesday. Jena Debiec hit a home run for Howland.
