Congregation takes part in event for kids
The local church has supported the Cleveland Christian Home for nearly 10 years.
WARREN — Lordstown Christian Church, 6370 Tod Ave. S.W., is going the distance for Northeast Ohio’s abused and neglected children.
A group of 30 students and advisers from the church’s Sunday school and youth group will travel to Cleveland on Saturday to participate in the Cleveland Christian Home’s Walk and Run for the Kids.
Additionally, adult members of the congregation have organized their own local Walk and Run for the Kids at Eastwood Mall in Niles beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
David Emerine, coordinator of the Niles walk, organized the event for the church in memory of Pastor Bernard Oakes’ deceased son, Mark, who was an advocate of the Cleveland Christian Home.
Cleveland Christian Home serves more than 500 children, youth and families who are struggling with mental illness, abuse or neglect.
The church has supported the Cleveland Christian Home for nearly a decade.
Cleveland Christian Home’s Walk and Run for the Kids was established 18 years ago to help combat child abuse and neglect. Participation is open to the public and encouraged for all ages and abilities. Walk-up registrations are welcome.
The Cleveland walk registration includes admission to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Rainforest, an event T-shirt, a light breakfast, and an indoor family fair featuring arts and crafts, balloons and face painting. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by a 5-kilometer run at 8:45 a.m. and a 5-kilometer walk at 9:15 a.m.
