YOUNGSTOWN — The YSU football alumni group is accepting reservations for their spring reunion April 18-19.
There is a dinner at Mr. Anthony’s, a golf outing at Oak Tree Country Club and a buffet dinner provided by Outback Steakhouse prior to the spring game.

Midget Phantoms win
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Phantom Fireworks Midget Major AAA team won its first game of the 2008 Tier 1, Under-18 National Championships, 5-0, over Belle Tire (Mich.) Wednesday at the Amherst Pepsi Center.
Goaltender Andrew New turned aside 35 shots, while Frankie Chiapperino, Cody Ganchar, Kurt Washnock, Jacob Carney and J.D. Howard each tallied goals.
The Phantoms (46-18-9) will play the L.A. Selects today and the host Amherst Knights Friday to complete the round-robin portion of the tournament.
Southside boxers win
NILES — All five boxers from the Southside Boxing Club won their fights at the amateur show at McMenamy’s Banquet Hall.
Pedro Salinas (60 pounds) won a three-round decision over Joe Nelo of Columbus, Julian Salinas (75) stopped Shawn Livingston of Steubenville in the second round, and PoPo Salinas (85) won a three-round decision over Caleb Parrish of Pittsburgh.
Chris Hazimahalis, fighting at 141 pounds, won a four-round decision over Julius Lagrand of Cleveland and Wesley Triplett won a three-round decision over Ozell Johnson of Cleveland.
James Bickerstaff, 76, was racing legend
CANFIELD – James E. Bickerstaff, 76, formerly of Mineral Ridge, passed away March 21.
Bickerstaff was a regular on local racing circuits.
He was inducted into the Pittsburgh Auto Racing Hall Of Fame, the Lorain Speedway Hall of Fame and the Twin State Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
Ward Invitational
EAST PALESTINE — The 39th William E. Ward Invitational will be Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., and Reid Stadium.
Schools expected to enter the meet are East Palestine, Akron East, Fitch, Akron Hoban, Badger, Beaver Local, Boardman, Canfield, Cardinal Mooney, Chaney, Youngstown East, East Liverpool, Howland, LaBrae, Lakeview, Liberty, Poland, Salem, Southern Local and Warren Harding.

Bethany picks Summey as coach
BETHANY, W.Va. – Univ. of North Florida assistant Mike Summey was selected as the new head men’s basketball coach at Bethany College.
Summey was chosen from a field of more than 60 applicants, including several current head coaches, to take over a Bison program which has won three PAC titles in the last four years and five in the last eight seasons.
Summey becomes the 24th men’s basketball coach in Bethany history after a two-year stint at North Florida.
He coordinated all recruiting efforts at UNF and aided in the program’s transition to Division I, as the Ospreys just finished their second season at the DI level.
Rohan paces Kent
PITTSBURGH — Greg Rohan (South Range High) went 2-for-4 Wednesday as the Kent State baseball team defeated Pitt 7-0.
Kent is 9-13. Pitt is 8-14.
