McDonald 9, Jackson-Milton 0
McDONALD — McDonald sophomore Kaitlin Rutushin pitched her first no-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one, to lead the Blue Devils in an Inter Tri-County League Tier Two game. Rutushin also had four hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs for McDonald (1-0, 1-0), while Sarah Ingalls had two hits and three RBIs and Kirstan Tayala had two hits and two RBIs.
Western Reserve 10, Wellsville 0
BERLIN CENTER — The Blue Devils (2-0, 2-0 ITCL) ripped 13 hits as winning pitcher Elizabeth Srock (1-0) hit two doubles and a single and drove in four runs, while Heather Monoski, Chelsea and Presley Commings each hit two singles. Srock struck out 10 batters.
Lisbon 1, South Range 0
NORTH LIMA — Lisbon, the defending ITCL Tier Two champions, scored its run on a pair of errors in the top of the seventh to win. Emily Smith reached on a two-base error to start the inning and when Blair Flory sacrificed her to third, an errant throw allowed her to score. Erica Snoddy struck out nine with one walk for the Blue Devils (1-0). Laura Biroschak had two hits, including a double, for the Raiders (0-1), while Madison Yanek pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Boardman 15, Warren Harding 0
BOARDMAN — Spartans junior Kelsey Ford tossed her first varsity perfect game, striking out seven batters in five innings. The Spartans (1-0) broke open a close game by scoring eight runs with two outs in the third inning. Angela Martin’s grand slam and Jamie Massaro’s RBI double were the big hits in that frame. Ford, Lizzie Padgitt and Alex DiDomenico also had RBI hits. Harding is 0-1.
Mooney 12, Niles 0
YOUNGSTOWN — Kelcie Herberger and Christy Porter combined on a five-inning no-hitter for Mooney. Porter had five strikeouts and a walk, while Herberger (1-0) had two strikeouts and a walk. Kristen Stahl doubled three times, scored three times and drove in five. Katie Hughes had two hits and three RBIs for Mooney (1-0).
Lakeview 9, Girard 2
GIRARD — Brigitte Morvay’s three hits drove in three runs for the Bulldogs (1-0). Joanna Novotny also ad three hits that drove in two runners. Lakeview’s Mackenzie Palette had two hits and two RBIs while Lex Fidley had two hits. Winning pitcher Abbey Bensinger tossed a two-hitter, striking out nine batters. For the Indians, Melissa Weitzman and Katie Noday had hits.
Champion 6, LaBrae 0
CHAMPION — Morgan White pitched a one-hit shutout and also had three hits offensively to lead Champion (1-0, 1-0). Nicole Weaver added a double and two RBIs, while Amanda Sain had two hits.
Newton Falls 6, Brookfield 1
BROOKFIELD —Blaine Chapman tossed a one-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one, to lead Newton Falls in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game. Jasmine Hawkins had three RBIs for the Tigers (1-1). Corin Miller struck out 10 and walked three for Brookfield (0-1).
Poland 2, Warren JFK 1
POLAND — Liz Maher of Poland and Rachel Pico of Warren JFK waged a tremendous pitchers duel which saw the Bulldogs prevail with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of the season opener. Allie Patton of the Bulldogs (1-0) was walked leading off the seventh. With two out, Jenna Barnhart doubled home Patton, then she scored the deciding run on an error. Pico, in a losing cause, struck out 13 and walked one. Maher, the winning pitcher, struck out 11.
Struthers 3, Springfield 2
NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Wildcats scored two runs in the second inning, three in the third and two in the fourth. Winning pitcher Ashley (1-0) and Dana Mathews each hit a home run for Struthers.
Beaver Local 15, Toronto 5
LISBON — The Beavers (1-1) collected 19 hits, seven of them for extra bases. Katie Smith hit a pair of triples for Beaver Local. Kayla Mackall (1-1) worked five innings, scattered six hits and struck out five.
Southeast 3, Streetsboro 2
STREETSBORO — Winning pitcher Shannon Hamilton (1-0) of the Pirates singled home the winning run in the top of the seventh inning. She also hit a double. She worked a complete game, allowing only five hits and striking out nine. Andrea Medine hit a double for Streetsboro.
