Boardman 10, Howland 0

BOARDMAN — Boardman junior Pat O’Brien pitched a six-inning one-hitter, striking out eight without walking a batter to lead the Spartans over visiting Howland. Eric Walters went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Spartans (1-0), while Mike Popio and Shane Parks each added two hits. Stefan Stelk singled with one out in the sixth for Howland (0-1).

Ursuline 6, Columbiana 5

STRUTHERS — Ross Revella’s two hits included a double for the Irish (2-0) at Cene Park. Joel Wielbruda’s two hits drove in two runs. Nick McCartney singled twice. Also with doubles for Ursuline were Paul Cene and Dan Baco. Jim Mszanski relieved Tyler Dejang in the fifth inning to earn the victory. For the Clippers (0-2), Jon Ritchey, Travis Demmende and Ty Demmende doubled while Josh Harold tripled. Travis Demmende’s two hits drove in three runs.

Mooney 14, Warren JFK 4

STRUTHERS — Anthony Franceschelli and Matt Durkin combined on a four-hitter for Mooney. Colin Hart, Mike Pesto and Jeff Bruno each had two hits for the Cardinals (1-1). Don Diles had two hits for JFK (0-1).

Tuesday, Mooney fell to Aurora, 8-6. Franceschelli had two hits, including a triple, while Scott Smith and Colin Hart each had two hits for the Cardinals. Brad Byers pitched four innings of scoreless relief. Andy Heacox had two hits, including a triple, to lead Aurora.

Springfield 3, Mineral Ridge 2

MINERAL RIDGE — Mike Semach singled, stole second base and scored the winning run on Ronnie Bobo’s seventh inning fielder’s choice. Winning pitcher Bryan Visingardi (1-0) and Mike Semach each had two hits for the Tigers (2-0, 2-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier One). Visingardi allowed seven hits. For the Rams (0-2, 0-2), Jason Ferguson drove in a run while Ryan Anderson had two hits.

Western Reserve 6, Wellsville 2

BERLIN CENTER —Nick Timko and John Gora combined to strike out 14 Wellsville batters. Timko, Chris Kalbfell and Matt Kalbfell had doubles.

McDonald 22, Jackson-Milton 0

McDONALD — Winning pitcher Nick Gatta (1-0) tossed a two-hitter, striking out 11 batters and walking one in an Inter Tri-County League Tier Two game. Mike Thomas had three hits, Bill Lowry tripled twice to drive in three runs and Mike Gatta had two hits and three RBIs for the Blue Devils (1-0). For the Bluejays (0-1), Derek Rummel and Jim Nagy had hits.

East Palestine 2, Crestview 0

NEW WATERFORD — Nick Baiamonte and Nick DiCello of the Bulldogs combined for a one-hit shut out in the season opener. Trenton Reynolds got the only hit for Crestview in the fifth inning. Baiamonte and Wes Best of the Bulldogs each singled in the fourth inning and both scored on a double by Pat Buckley.

Lisbon 16, South Range 9

NORTH LIMA — The Blue Devils scored six runs in the first inning and six more in the fifth in rolling to the season opener. Dana Rose triggered the offense with a double and two singles and he drove in four runs. Lucas Rambo and Dustin Borgeach had two hits. Isaac Melnick, Jack Dawson and Steve Bensinger each had two hits for the Raiders.

Southeast 6, Alliance 4

ALLIANCE — Andy Hartman’s ninth-inning single drove in two runs for the Pirates (1-0). Hartman had two hits and three RBIs. Matt Bright doubled and Anthony Pennington picked up the win in relief of Zach Steele.
