Teamster Local 377 institute new policies

New policies

Running the union

Charlie Byrnes, trustee for Teamsters Local 377, instituted these new policies:

Warning letters: The union will respond to all warning letters sent to employees for allegations of poor performance. Byrnes said the union hadn’t been responding to these letters, which made employees look bad if a case went to arbitration.

Gasoline purchases: Receipts must be turned in for gasoline purchases by business agents, who are provided with credit cards to buy fuel for union travel. Usage will be monitored. In the past, bills were paid without a procedure for verifying union travel, Byrnes said.

Grievances: Business agents are required to consider grievance requests and discuss them with union leadership. An appeal process has been established for grievances that are not pursued.

Meetings: Private meetings between business agents and company officials are banned. Shop stewards must be present or have to be informed of the meeting if the company requests a confidential meeting.

Office locks: Locks have been changed in the union hall and restricted areas have been established. Among the charges from the October election were the removal or shredding of certain documents.
