Canfield extends city manager’s contract
CANFIELD — The contract of City Manager Charles Tieche has been extended three more months.
Tieche, who announced his retirement last summer, has agreed to stay with the city until it finds his replacement. The city extended his contract in January for three more months at his same salary — $73,000 per year. That contract runs out April 5.
Council President Andrew Skrobola said Wednesday that the city is advertising the position in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, as well as in the Wall Street Journal and other publications.
Council member Dan Frazzini voted no on Tieche’s contact extension at Wednesday’s council meeting, as he did in January. Frazzini said the reason is because Tieche retired four years ago and returned to the position, in effect making him a “double dipper.” Frazzini said he has always thought Tieche should have only been allowed to return to his city manager’s position with a reduced level of benefits, so that the city could save money.
