Louie Today: 2008 Congressional Pig Book

Louie, Vindy.com's news radio partner, has a copy of that little pink book that makes politicians squirm.

The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) will release the 2008 Congressional Pig Book at a news conference Wednesday. Louie has and has read an advance copy. But Louie's read it and will talk with Thomas A. Schatz, president of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, on today's "Brainfood From the Heartland."

The Pig Book is an annual report on pork-barrel spending in the federal budget. This year's version features a complete database of pork projects and profiles of the most egregious examples from the federal Appropriations Acts. In fiscal 2008, pork-barrel spending ballooned to 11,610 projects costing $17.2 billion.

Louie will lead a discussion of the current state of earmark reform and what more needs to be done to stop Congress from returning to its piggish ways.

He'll also welcome Dr.Hyla Cass back to the show. She's one of the country's foremost authors and speakers on the subject of integrative medicine. A former assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA School of Medicine, she has incorporated nutrition and natural health techniques into her practice for more than 20 years.

She'll talk about her new book : Supplement Your Prescription; What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutrition.
