Agency receives grant
YOUNGSTOWN — Protestant Family Service has received a $5,534 grant from the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley for capital improvements to upgrade the computer system and provide adequate and efficient workspace in the reception area. Protestant Family Service, 496 Glenwood Ave., is a nonprofit organization that provides emergency help to those facing utility shutoff or eviction, obtaining life-sustaining medication, and other crisis situations. The agency relies on donations from individuals, churches/church groups, organizations, fundraisers throughout the year and grants to continue its ministry in our community. The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is operated exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes, for the well-being of Mahoning and Trumbull county residents.
Seeking board members
BOARDMAN — Township trustees are seeking letters of interest from residents who want to serve on either the township park commission or the civil service commission. Letters should be submitted by next Wednesday to the Boardman Township Government Center, 8299 Market St., Boardman 44512, Attn: Stephanie Ouzounian. An appointment to both panels is expected to be made at the trustees’ April 23 meeting. More information on the duties of the park commission may be found in Ohio Revised Code Section 511.23. More information on duties of the commission is available on the township’s Web site, www.boardmantownship.com, under administration.
Charged in stabbing
WARREN — A Warren man is charged in the stabbing of his brother. Edward A. Yauger, 45, of West Market Street, appeared Tuesday in municipal court on a charge of felonious assault. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 29, and he is being held in lieu of a $2,500 bond. Police reported that he stabbed his brother, Mark R. Yauger, 44, of West Avenue, multiple times outside Mark Yauger’s home. Witnesses told police that the stabbing occurred because Mark Yauger wanted to leave the house late Monday night.
Liberty open enrollment
LIBERTY — Liberty Local Schools are accepting applications for open enrollment for the 2008-09 school year. A limited number of pupils will be accepted. Applications may be picked up at the board of education office, 4115 Shady Road beginning today through April 11, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Applications may be picked up by custodial parents/guardians only. All applications and materials must be completed and returned in person to the appropriate school buildings by 3 p.m. April 16. No applications will be given out for grades seven and 12.
