Wesches mark their 60th anniversary

XCOLUMBIANA — Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Wesch Jr., of 422 N. Bayshore Drive, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 14 during a three-week trip to the south coast of England.

A dinner was held at the early 17th century Plumber Manor, deep in the Dorset countryside, and was attended by their son, Carl, and Mrs. Wesch’s sister, Carmel Dillon, who resides in the village of Upwey in Dorset.

Mr. Wesch and the former Sheila Hynes, who is a native of Weymouth, England, were married Sept. 14, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation. They met when Mr. Wesch was stationed in England while serving in the U.S. Army. After a long courtship through letters, Mrs. Wesch came to the United States in August 1947.

Mr. Wesch is a retired Exxon executive. His duties with the company involved extensive travel and home relocations. Mr. and Mrs. Wesch have lived in England, Italy and Singapore. Their last move was from Lake San Marcos in California to Columbiana to live closer to their son.
