Jarvis’ ground attack paces Kent State past Ohio, 33-25

ATHENS — Eugene Jarvis rushed for 230 yards on 30 carries and scored twice to lead Kent State past Ohio 33-25 Saturday.

Jarvis scored on runs of 42 and 35 yards for the Golden Flashes (3-2, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) who totaled 402 yards of offense.

He now has 999 yards rushing on the year on 155 carries, an average of 6.4 yards a carry and 200 per game.

Julian Edelman completed 12-of-25 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown without an interception for Kent State.

The Flashes led 27-10 after Jarvis’ second touchdown run at the 9:28 mark of the third quarter. Ohio never got closer than 10 points after falling behind 17-3 in the first quarter.

Theo Scott hit on 16-of-24 passes for 161 yards and touchdowns of 14 and 13 yards to Andrew Mooney for the Bobcats (2-3, 0-1). Scott had one pass intercepted, as did Brad Bower, who came in to complete 6-of-16 passes for 110 yards.

Kalvin McRae led Ohio with 74 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Nate Reed kicked field goals of 27, 26, 20 and 38 yards for Kent State.

Connecticut 44, Akron 10

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Andre Dixon ran for 116 yards and Tyvon Branch ran a kickoff back 97 yards for a touchdown to lead undefeated Connecticut.

Akron (2-3) had a 10-9 lead with 4:04 left in the first half after a 6-yard touchdown pass from Chris Jacquemain to Jabari Arthur, but didn’t score again.

Connecticut quarterback Tyler Lorenzen completed 17 of 26 passes for 203 yards with an interception and two touchdown passes. One of those went to Dixon, who also had a 55-yard touchdown run.

Jacquemain was 19-of-28 for 145 yards for Akron, with a touchdown and an interception.

W. Michigan 42, Toledo 28

TOLEDO — Tim Hiller passed for three touchdowns and Mark Bonds ran for two to guide Western Michigan past Toledo. Hiller completed 21-of-29 passes for 229 yards with one interception for the Broncos (2-3, 1-0 Mid-American Conference).

Cent. Michigan 35, N. Illinois 10

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Dan LeFevour completed 18 of 27 passes for 172 yards and rushed for another 42 yards as Central Michigan rolled past Northern Illinois. Northern Illinois amassed 522 offensive yards, but committed five turnovers, failed on two fourth-down attempts and missed a 21-yard field goal.

Miami 17, Syracuse 14

OXFORD — Cory Jones scored his first two career touchdowns as Miami (Ohio) snapped a seven-game home losing streak. The senior carried 12 times for 125 yards to lead the RedHawks (2-3) to their second win in six games against Big East teams.

Bowling Green 41, W. Kentucky 21

BOWLING GREEN — Tyler Sheehan passed for three scores and ran for another to lead Bowling Green past Western Kentucky. Sheehan completed 31-of-42 passes for 270 yards and his touchdown passes covered 5 yards to Freddie Barnes, 3 yards to Corey Partridge and 15 yards to Marques Parks.

Ball State 49, Buffalo 14

MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and used a balanced offense to cruise over Buffalo.

Army 37, Temple 21

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Corey Anderson returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and Jeremy Trimble scored on a pair of long touchdown plays to lead Army over winless Temple.
