Hughes’ goal give Spartans 1-1 deadlock with Howland


Carrie Ritzler’s four goals and assist led Springfield past South Range, 7-2.

BOARDMAN — Katelyn Hughes’ goal on an assist by Jenn Libbey with about 20 minutes remaining lifted Boardman into a 1-1 tie with Howland in a girls soccer game Saturday.

Howland (8-0-4) had taken a 1-0 lead on Megan Long’s goal with about 10:00 elapsed in the second half. Kelley Drew and Stephanie Kuel earned assists.

Boardman (8-1-2) goalkeeper Cheyenne Khatib made 10 saves while Howland’s Casey Haerin made one.

Springfield 7, South Range 2

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Carrie Ritzler scored four goals and had an assist for the Tigers (7-3-1, 5-0) in an Inter Tri-County League game.

Allyson Berry scored a goal and had four assists for the Tigers. Breanne Mincher and Hannah Chapella each had a goal. Amber Uscianowski had an assist.

Kelli Johnston and Alyssa Gwirtz each scored a goal for the Raiders (1-6-1). Mackenzie Pfeifer and Katelin Smith had an assist apiece.

Springfield had 18 shots on goal and South Range had 11.

Heather Cozak, goalie, had eight saves for the Tigers. Lyndsey Cramer and Emily Deiger had 10 and six saves for the Raiders.

Mooney 2, Upper St. Clair (Pa.) 0

STRUTHERS — Ashley Cuba scored both goals to lead Mooney (5-1-4) at Valley Sports.

Cuba’s first goal with four minutes remaining in first half came on Dina Pelly’s assist. Then Cuba scored on a penalty kick with 20 minutes remaining.

Mooney (5-4-1) goalie Megan McLaughlin had six saves.

Upper St. Clair (Pa.) (7-4-0) goalie Carly Hyland three saves.

JVs: Upper St. Clair, 5-0.

Boys

WARREN — Matt Britton scored three goals, while Evan Hideg and Tom Stark one apiece for Liberty, which snapped a 1-1 halftime tie and went on to defeat Warren Harding, 5-1.

Pat McGarry had an assist and goalkeeper Josh Hideg had six saves.

Ryan Burk scored the goal the goal for Warren Harding. Caleb Tatebe had 11 saves.

JVs: Tie, 4-4

Revere 2, Canfield 1

CANFIELD — All of the scoring in the soccer game was in the second half with Brandon Rotili scoring the deciding goal for Revere.

Ameer Elbuluk put Revere out in front 1-0 on an assist from Andy Lamb.

The Cardinals Tim Hutchinson then scored a goal to tie it.

Jared Turocy had six saves for Canfield, while Ryan Hoffner had four saves for Revere.

Revere outshot Canfield 10-8.
