Mount Union 62, Heidelberg 3

TIFFIN — Nate Kmic ran 18 times for 123 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Purple Raiders (4-0, 3-0 Ohio Athletic Conf.). Kmic scored on runs of 49, 6, 1 and 1 yards. Quarterback Greg Micheli completed 13 of 17 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Bryson Davis, Pierre Garcon and Cecil Shorts caught Micheli scoring aerials that covered 9, 42 and 43 yards, respectively. Jesse Hawkins kicked a 24-yard field goal for Heidelberg (1-3, 0-3) which trailed 35-3 at the break.

St. Xavier 13, Walsh 10

CANTON — Shane Longest kicked field goals of 31 and 43 yards to lead St. Xavier (5-0, 1-0) in the game at Fawcett Stadium. After falling behind 6-0, Walsh took a 7-6 lead in the third quarter when Clinton Blossomgame cracked in from a yard out. A 1-yard Billy Yeo touchdown followed by a Longest extra point put St. Xavier in front 13-7 with 11 minutes remaining. Blossomgame carried 30 times for 114 yards for the Cavaliers (3-2, 0-1).

Allegheny 14, Denison 0

MEADVILLE, Pa. — T.J. Salopek ran for one touchdown and threw for another to lead Allegheny to its shutout. Salopek rambled 54 yards for a touchdown with 3:35 left in the second quarter to give Allegheny (3-1, 1-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference) a 7-0 lead. The touchdown capped a seven-play, 97-yard drive. Salopek also connected with Jake Vibe on a 40-yard touchdown pass with 12:00 left in the fourth quarter. Salopek completed 18 of 30 passes for 171 yards and rushed for 68 yards on 14 carries. Allegheny recorded its first shutout since 2005 and held Denison (1-3, 0-1) to 150 yards in total offense.

Thiel 37, Bethany 13

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Steve Minton rushed for 238 yards on 24 carries, including touchdown runs of 76 and 23 yards for Thiel. Thiel (2-3, 1-1 Presidents’ Athletic Conference) never trailed after Dan Hess ran 2 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter, two plays after Thiel recovered a fumble at the Bethany (2-2 0-1) 28. Bethany made it 7-6 when John Rhodes ran 15 yards to cap a five-play, 60-yard drive on its next possession. But Minton answered with his 76-yard touchdown run on Thiel’s next play from scrimmage and Minton and the Tomcats were off and running. Hess gained 152 yards on 28 carries as Thiel piled up 425 yards rushing. Bethany gained 192 yards on the ground, led by quarterback Marcus Santini, who ran 11 times for 78 yards. But Santini and Milton Joyner had little success in the air, as Thiel intercepted a pass from each and allowed Bethany just three completions in 18 pass attempts for a total of 26 yards.

Oberlin 49, Hiram 14

OBERLIN — Oberlin got off to a fast start, scoring touchdowns on its first three possessions to lead 21-0 after the first quarter of play. Hiram is 0-4, 0-1. Oberlin is 1-3, 1-0 NCAC. The Yeoman tallied two more scores on a pair of touchdown completions from quarterback Greg Mangan to Chris Schubert to take a commanding 35-0 lead at halftime. Hiram got on the board in the third quarter — a 44-yard TD completion from junior All-NCAC quarterback Trevor Henderson to freshman wide receiver Steven Hammond.

Geneva 29, La Salle 7

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — Div. III Geneva returned two fumbles for touchdowns to earn its 500th victory. Jamaur Law returned a fumble 30 yards for a score and Brian Wilson returned one 63 yards for another touchdown for Geneva (4-1), which is playing its first season in Div. III after winning 496 games in 117 years as a member of the NAIA. The Golden Tornados held La Salle, a member of the Football Championship Subdivision, to just 177 total yards and forced five turnovers while recording six sacks. Geneva built a 17-0 halftime lead behind the fumble returns by Law and Wilson and a 28-yard field goal by Nick DiPietro. Bobby Bondi threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Adam Chatlos in the third quarter and Matt Dean scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth as Geneva took a 29-0 lead with 6:39 left. The Explorers (0-4) avoided the shutout when Steve Panasuk threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to John McVey with 3:48 left. Bondi threw for just 72 yards on 8-for-19 passing and Dean picked up 72 yards on 12 carries for the Golden Tornados, who didn’t need much offense after their defense tallied 14 points in the first half. In addition to his fumble return, Wilson picked up two of Geneva’s six sacks.

Malone 45, Marian 28

INDIANAPOLIS — Bernard Payton ran 33 times for 145 yards and scored three touchdowns for Malone (4-1, 1-0). Malone led just 17-15 at half. Marian is 0-4, 0-1. Malone quarterback Billy Bob Orsagh was 24-for-37 passing for 278 yards and three touchdowns.

Indiana (Pa.) 34, Slippery Rock 31

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Matt McNelis kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired to give Indiana the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division nod. The game-winning kick capped off a game dominated by the two offenses. IUP (4-0, 1-0) outgained The Rock (4-1, 0-1) 411-408 in total yards.
