A&L LANDFILL
Troubled past
The A&L Landfill, which is in
portions of Center, Elkrun and Madison townships, has had its problems. Here are some of them:
2005: The landfill had to pay a civil penalty of $56,533 for taking solid waste when it is supposed to accept only demolition debris.
August 2006: The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency notified the landfill it was violating air-pollution standards for hydrogen sulfide, dust limits and asbestos handling. No penalty has been imposed, said an OEPA spokesman. The information was passed on to the attorney general’s office.
September 2006: A&L paid a civil penalty of $13,000 for offenses in 2004.
Early 2007: Ohio attorney general’s office asked by OEPA to again seek financial sanctions against A&L.
