Struthers rallies against Salem


The Wildcats scored twice in the final quarter for a 29-15 victory.

STRUTHERS — The Struthers High football team scored twice in the fourth quarter Friday to defeat Salem, 29-15.

The Wildcats (2-4, 1-2 Metro Athletic Conference) broke a 15-15 tie when Sam Valliquette scored on a 2-yard run.

John Balogh caught a 45-yard TD pass from Jordan Morell for Struthers’ final score.

Valliquette also scored on 3 and 10 yard runs and finished with 180 yards rushing on 22 carries.

Gino Paquinelli caught a 8-yard pass from quarterback Zach O’Brien to give the Quakers (1-5, 1-2) an early lead in the first quarter.

O’Brien completed 14 of 21 passes for 118 yards which included a 9-yard TD strike to Ben Eisel, who caught 9 passes for 93 yards.

CAMPBELL — The Tigers (6-0, 3-0) rushed for 309 yards to remain atop the MAC standings. Matt Preston gained 92 yards on six carries and scored on runs of 3 and 50 yards.

Dante Marsh also scored two touchdowns and rushed for 67 yards.

Howland is ranked sixth in this week’s Associated Press poll of Ohio’s Division II teams. The Tigers also are ranked second in Division V of the computer playoff ratings.

Canfield 45,
East Liverpool 0

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Cardinals (5-1, 2-1) used a punishing ground attack to prevail against the Potters (0-6, 0-3).

Pat Fening carried five times for 78 yards, including TD runs of 34, 11 and 25 yards.

Canfield gained 327 yards on 27 attempts while holding the Potters to 98 on 40 tries.

The Cardinals are ranked eighth in this week’s Div. II state poll and are third in the Region VII computer rankings.
