YOUNGSTOWN — The Ohio Supreme Court has accepted the resignation of Atty. Theodore T. Macejko from law practice. The high court issued its acceptance order signed by Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer on Friday. Atty. Macejko, 68, of Poland, a prominent criminal defense lawyer, former assistant prosecutor in Boardman court, and past president of the Mahoning County Bar Association, had submitted his letter of resignation to the court March 27. J. Gerald Ingram, current county bar association president, said he thinks Atty. Macejko’s resignation is related to health issues. Atty. Macejko, whose law practice was based in Youngstown, was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1963.

Lease OK’d for tank

YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s board of control approved a land lease deal Friday with Mahoning County for a 1.5 million-gallon water tank to better serve the South Side and Boardman. The city doesn’t have a time frame for constructing the tank, estimated to cost $3 million.

Park road reopens

YOUNGSTOWN — West Glacier Drive in Mill Creek Park reopened to vehicular traffic Friday. The road had been closed since early July for resurfacing.

Poland Avenue repaving

STRUTHERS — Beginning Monday, a resurfacing project will begin on Poland Avenue (Route 616). Struthers City School District buses may be running behind schedule for pickup and drop-offs.

Vacant-structure fires

YOUNGSTOWN — A vacant apartment at 1402 Bellview Ave. was set on fire around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the fire department said. Crews attacked the fire on the first and second floor. Damage was set at $5,000. Earlier Thursday, a fire was deliberately set in the kitchen of a vacant house at 237 Superior St. and extended to the second floor just before 8 a.m., the fire department said. Crews found the front and rear doors open and some windows broken out or open. Damage was set at $9,000. Demolition was requested for both houses.

I-80 bridge work

Beginning Sunday, Interstate 80 eastbound and westbound from U.S. Route 422 to the Pennsylvania state line in Liberty and Hubbard townships will have various nightly lane restrictions for bridge repairs by the Ohio Department of Transportation. Restriction will occur nightly from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. and will continue through Friday.

Green road closing

GREEN — Washingtonville Road between Knopp Road and state Route 165 in Green Township will be closed from Monday through Oct. 12 to replace two culverts, the Mahoning County engineer’s office said.

Charged in solicitation

YOUNGSTOWN — After watching Tonya R. Davenport walk up and down Hillman Street and wave at male drivers, police followed after she got into a van. The officers stopped the vehicle near Chicago Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Friday. Davenport, 37, of West Evergreen Avenue, and the van driver, Kenneth C. Dressel, 70, of East Earle Avenue, were arrested on a charge of loitering to engage in solicitation. They were each given a court summons. Dressel told police he was just taking Davenport home “despite the fact that he had already passed up the street she resides on by three blocks and was heading in the wrong direction to boot,” Patrolman Stephen Price wrote in his report.

Armed robbery reported

YOUNGSTOWN — Using a small handgun as persuasion, a robber in his late teens or early 20s took cash, cigarettes and a lighter from a man outside a bar in the 3200 block of South Avenue just before 9 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Copper plumbing theft

YOUNGSTOWN — A maintenance man who went to 752 Pineview Ave. to do some repairs Thursday discovered the front door of the vacant South Side house, owned by Neapolitan Realty, had been forced open and copper plumbing missing from the basement, police said.

Domestic violence vigil

YOUNGSTOWN — Sojourner House Domestic Violence Program will have its annual candlelight vigil at noon Monday in the Mahoning County Courthouse rotunda, 120 Market St. This year’s theme is “Rediscovering the Beauty of You” and will feature statements by survivors of domestic violence along with poetry readings and musical selections.
