Youngstown schools plan Community Walk

YOUNGSTOWN — City school district staff, parents and volunteers will be canvassing individual school neighborhoods Oct. 6 in the fifth annual Community Walk.

The program has school personnel walking through each school neighborhood, knocking on doors, handing out brochures about school programs and asking about residents’ concerns or issues related to the schools.

This year’s walk will also feature information about the 9.5-mill, five-year tax levy issue on the Nov. 6 election ballot.

District officials said the city schools need the $5 million a year the levy will generate to overcome a $15 million budget deficit last year.

Groups will met at each school building at 9 a.m. and travel through each school’s residential service area until 11:30 a.m.

Everyone will then travel downtown for a rally at noon on Federal Plaza. There will be entertainment at the rally.
