Wording of 4 options is questioned by state

Five liquor issues slated for the ballot were not questioned.

LISBON — Four liquor options will remain on the ballot in Columbiana County, at least for now.

The board of elections voted Wednesday to leave the four alone. Five other liquor issues were not questioned.

The Ohio Secretary of State’s Office had questioned the wording of the issues. The wording of the proposals to voters differs greatly between similar requests.

The questioned issues read:

UButler-East Precinct: The First Transylvanian Saxon Society, dba the Salem Saxon Club, 1980 (rear) New Garden Road, Butler Township, sale of beer, wine, mixed beverages and intoxicating liquors.

UEast Palestine 1-A Precinct: Gorby’s Market, 368 N. Market St., East Palestine, Sunday sales.

UColumbiana C Precinct: American Legion, 44403 state Route 14, Columbiana, Sunday sales.

USt. Clair Township, Calcutta Precinct: Columbiana Foods Inc., dba Giant Eagle store 632, St. Clair Township, Calcutta Precinct, C1 or C2 liquor permit with the off-premises sale of beer, wine and mixed beverages Monday through Saturday, in business of operating a grocery store; wine and mixed beverages from 1 p.m. to midnight, Calcutta, dba Giant Eagle 632, in application of a D-6 liquor permit, in the business of operating a grocery store.

Tom Edgell, deputy director of the election board, said the information is going to a printer next week to be printed on the ballots.

The other five liquor options are:

UCenter Township Northwest Precinct: Csonka’s Sports Complex, 6885 state Route 45, Sunday sales.

UColumbiana C Precinct: A&L Gas Quick Mart, 44987 state Route 14, Columbiana, Monday through Sunday beer sales and Sunday sales.

UColumbiana E Precinct: Columbiana NFS Inc., dba Save-A-Lot 787 Fairview Ave., Monday through Saturday sale of beer, wine, and mixed beverages and Sunday sales.

UEast Palestine 2-A Precinct: Doss Petroleum, dba East Palestine Marathon, 212 N. Market St., East Palestine, Sunday sales.

UFairfield Center Precinct: Doss Petroleum, dba DP Fuels 3952 state Route 7, New Waterford, Monday through Saturday sale of beer and Sunday sales.
