Giant Eagle changes coupon policy
Giant Eagle once again will double the value of coupons up to 99 cents.
Earlier this month, Giant Eagle adopted a new program in the Mahoning Valley that limited double coupons to those at 50 cents and under.
The Pittsburgh-based retailer said it is reversing that decision “to deliver the best in overall savings opportunities in the highly competitive Youngstown market.”
Giant Eagle said the change in coupons is part of a round of price reductions at area stores. It said it is cutting prices on 750 products, such as canned goods, pastas, pasta sauces and dinner mixes.
Brett Merrell, senior vice president of marketing, said Giant Eagle can make price reductions because of cost-savings initiatives put in place by the company.
The changes affect the company’s 16 stores in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Coupon changes also are happening in other markets.
Giant Eagle had eliminated double coupons in the Cleveland and Akron markets earlier this month, but it has reversed that decision. Those areas also have a 99-cent limit.
