What is GM-Lordstown’s future?
Analysts were working today to uncover which plants will gain investments from General Motors if a new labor contract is adopted.
“My hunch is that this is fairly good news for the [union] in Lordstown,” said Greg Gardner, an analyst with Harbour & Associates in Troy, Mich.
GM has scheduled production of the Chevrolet Cobalt at its Lordstown complex only through June 2009.
Gardner stressed, however, that he hasn’t heard any specific information leaked on what job security guarantees the United Auto Workers received.
Michael Robinet, vice president of CSM Worldwide in Northville, Mich., said the tentative labor contract reached early today included commitments for staffing levels and new investments by GM, but it is unclear where those will be.
“Whether it affects Lordstown or whether Lordstown is part of that, I don’t know,” he said.
