YOUNGSTOWN — A sobriety checkpoint will be from 9 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday in Mahoning County. Members of the Mahoning County Operating Vehicle Impaired Task Force will be enforcing zero tolerance for impaired drivers. The task force encourages responsible drinking and the use of designated drivers.
Woman cited in crash
YOUNGSTOWN — A 23-year-old woman driving west on East Lucius Avenue traveled off the road, struck a tree, fence and trash cans before ending up in the backyard of 532 East Lucius around 11:30 p.m. Monday, police said. Shana M. Starks, of Lake Drive, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment and cited for failure to maintain reasonable control.
Charged with assault
YOUNGSTOWN — A federal grand jury in Cleveland issued a three-count indictment Tuesday that charges Sean Bishop, 28, of Stewart Avenue with assault on a government agent while performing duties, assault on a government agent with a dangerous weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Bishop is accused of attempting to run over an FBI agent with the FBI/Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force on Sept. 4 on Ohio Avenue. The agent shot Bishop.
Robbery report
YOUNGSTOWN — A 39-year-old man walking his dog in the 3200 block of South Avenue around 11 p.m. Monday said he was robbed at gunpoint, reports show. The victim said he was called over to a porch by four men, one of whom pulled a gun. A cell phone and $25 were taken. The victim said he then walked to a business on South Avenue and used the phone to call police.
Arson investigation
SHARON, Pa. — Sharon police and firefighters are investigating an arson fire set outside Banking Equipment Consulting Inc. at 132 W. Budd St. Firefighters were called to the business at 5:22 a.m. Tuesday. A fire had started outside an east wall that had a three-foot false front. They were able to contain the blaze to the outside. There was some smoke damage inside, but the business will be able to operate, firefighters said. This blaze is not believed to be connected to arson fires started last week at vacant houses in the city, firefighters said.
Extradition hearing
LISBON — An extradition hearing set Tuesday in Columbiana County Municipal Court for a man charged with murder was postponed until 1 p.m. Oct. 23. Jessy Castelucci, 25, of Salem, will continue to be held in Columbiana County Jail without bond, said Ryan P. Weikart, an assistant county prosecutor. Florida authorities have not provided the needed documents to consider extradition. Castelucci is charged with the fatal shooting of Davronjon Bakeev, 29, in Muse, Fla., in 2002. The deceased’s wife, Hadassah Bakeev, 31, and her sister, Tabitha Labay, 33, both of Muse, also are charged with murder. Weikart said the hearing will be rescheduled if the paperwork arrives before Oct. 23.
Sentenced in ATV theft
MERCER, Pa. — Jeffrey Brozman, 47, of South Maryland Avenue, Youngstown, was sentenced to three to 18 months in Mercer County Jail followed by six months’ probation for felony burglary. On Oct. 9, 2006, he entered Northstar Power Sports, 1482 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, and stole an all-terrain vehicle valued at $8,899, court documents state.
Power lost after crash
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — More than 300 homes lost electricity after a car crashed into a utility pole. Penn Power spokesman Rob Lombardo said electricity was lost for about 40 minutes after the crash at 11:23 a.m. Monday. New Castle police said Kia Waller, 29, of Epworth Street, was leaving the Plaza South to go west on Reynolds Street when she spilled a bottle of water. She reportedly bent down to pick up the bottle, and her 1999 Ford Expedition hit a utility pole. Police said Waller was taken to Jameson Hospital for minor injuries. Police did not issue any traffic citations after the crash.
