School lets parents take kids’ place in class

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) — A parent-teacher conference offers one view of how students are performing. One Cincinnati-area school took it a step further when it gave parents the chance to spend a day going through their child’s routine.

They called it “Mirror Monday” at the West Clermont Institute of Performing Arts at Glen Este High School. It was based on the movie “Freaky Friday” in which a mother and daughter’s bodies are switched and they spend a day living each other’s life.

Students could stay home Monday if a parent took their place. Thirty-four parents signed up, but that didn’t mean all students stayed home.

Some said they couldn’t pass up the chance to watch their parents fumble with locker combinations, perform dance class exercises or struggle with algebra.
