Parents group to hold service for murdered children


WARREN — The Trumbull County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children will hold a local commemoration service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Log Cabin in downtown Warren.

Balloons will be released with messages to loved ones at the Community Amphitheater at about 7 p.m. A candle-lighting ceremony will follow, with a resolution from Warren Mayor Michael O’Brien at the Log Cabin.

Survivors of attempted homicides are invited to attend.

For more information, call (330) 675-2552. Seven area representatives traveled to Washington, D.C., Tuesday to participate in the first National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims at the U.S. Capitol.

Among the area representatives are Miriam Fife of Warren, of the Trumbull County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children and also a victim’s advocate for the Trumbull County prosecutor’s office.

The national observance was approved by Congress to recognize the impact of homicide on surviving family members and loved ones, said Jamie Lind, associate director of the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children Inc. in Cincinnati.
