HUBBARD — City police are still looking for the man who robbed the Circle K convenience store on West Liberty Street at gunpoint. Clerks in the store told police a man wearing a yellow shirt and blue jeans entered the store just before 11 p.m. Saturday, pointed a gun at one clerk and demanded money. He was given all the money in the cash register before fleeing the store.

Man wins $100,000

WARREN — William L. Griffiths won $100,000 after matching all five numbers in the Sept. 6 Rolling Cash 5 drawing. He filed a claim in the Youngstown regional office Tuesday. After federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, Griffiths receives $69,000. Griffiths used the auto lotto. The winning numbers were 2-10-28-36-38. He purchased the winning ticket from Macali Giant Eagle, 2061 Elm Road N.E. Macali Giant Eagle receives a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Indicted in rapes

LISBON — An East Liverpool man has been indicted by the Columbiana County grand jury on two counts of rape and two counts of kidnapping. The indictment was made public Tuesday. James McKahan, 28, is accused of kidnapping a girl he knew in West Virginia and taking her to his East Liverpool home, tying her up and raping her. The 20-year-old woman escaped when he left his house. The acts are alleged to have occurred Sept. 5 and 6.

Free firewood

YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks’ wood storage lot on West Golf Drive, just south of Stitt Pavilion, will be open Saturday and Sunday for people who want to cut and load firewood. There is no fee for the firewood, but individuals must bring a chain saw and cut and load their own wood. The lot will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No firewood may be removed from Mahoning County because of a quarantine for Emerald Ash borer. Illegal moving of firewood is punishable with a fine of up to $4,000. Only 15 vehicles will be permitted in the storage lot at a time. Trucks larger than pickup size, trailers attached to trucks and cars with trailers over 8 feet aren’t allowed.

MSWCD open house

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District will have a free open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in its offices at 850 Industrial Road. The goal of the event is to update the community on the agency’s education and assistance programs that promote good stewardship of natural resources. The agency offers education and consultation services to landowners concerning tree planting and other measures they can take to prevent soil erosion and protect water quality. The agency, which is funded by federal, state and Mahoning County funds, also offers seminars for landowners on farmland preservation, installation and maintenance of ponds and matters related to soil and water conservation.

Honors for Quaker Village

SALEM — The Ohio Lottery will recognize Quaker Village, 201 S. Lincoln Ave., as retailer-of-the-week for the week of Sept. 24. Quaker Village, owned by David Plummer, will be recognized on the lottery show, “Make Me Famous Make Me Rich” on Oct. 1. In the past, the store sold a $14 million Super Lotto ticket and a Rolling Cash 5 ticket worth $301,000. The business carries at least 47 instant games. Weekly sales for instant and on-line games average $16,970. Each week, the Ohio Lottery recognizes one outstanding retail partner who offers courteous service and sales enthusiasm. Retailers-of-the-week are chosen based on recommendations by their Lottery sales representative and regional sales office staff.

Cancer patient fundraiser

BROOKFIELD — A 20-year-old woman suffering from a rare form of cancer will benefit from a dinner and concert being held Saturday at Pathway Outreach Center, 7382 Stewart-Sharon Road. The Lacey Family Bluegrass Band and The M&M Express Band will perform at the Renee Karwacki Benefit from 6 to 9 p.m. Dinner will begin at 4 p.m. Suggested donation for the dinner is $7. Suggested donation for the concert is $12. Those attending both events are asked to donate $15; however, any donation will be accepted.
