Federal funds to cover 80% of new bridges


WARREN — The Trumbull County engineer’s office has learned that federal construction grants totaling $3.1 million will pay for 80 percent of future bridge replacements in Bristol, Hubbard and Warren townships and Lordstown village.

The remaining 20 percent of funding will come from county engineer funds. The county received $2.5 million in 2006 for bridge replacement projects in Kinsman, Farmington and Mesopotamia townships.

The new projects are:

U$1.2 million for replacement of the Hubbard Township bridge on Chestnut Ridge Road spanning Little Yankee Creek. The current bridge, built in 1964, is posted for a load reduction.

U$713,000 for replacement of the Bristol Township bridge on Messick South Road that spans Baughman Creek. It was built in 1930 and is posted for a legal load reduction as a one-lane bridge.

U$637,000 for replacement of the Lordstown Village bridge on Newton Falls-Bailey Road that spans an unnamed stream. The current bridge was built in 1939 and is posted for a load reduction and as a narrow bridge.

U$571,000 for replacement of the Warren Township bridge on Palmyra Road that spans Little Duck Creek. It was built in 1940 and rehabilitated in 1952. It is posted for a load reduction as a narrow bridge.
