Parents of Murdered Children plan events today, Sunday
WASHINGTON — Seven area representatives will travel to Washington, D.C. today to participate in the first ever National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims at the U.S. Capitol.
Among the area representatives are Miriam Fife of Warren. She is a member of the Trumbull County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children and also a victim’s advocate for the Trumbull County prosecutor’s office.
The national observance was approved by Congress to recognize the impact of homicide on surviving family members and loved ones, said Jamie Lind, associate director of the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children Inc. in Cincinnati.
Lind says more than 113,000 people have been murdered in the United States since 2000.
The Trumbull County Chapter will hold a local observance at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Log Cabin in downtown Warren.
Balloons will be released with messages to their loved ones at the Community Amphitheater at around 7 p.m. A candle lighting ceremony will follow and a resolution from Warren Mayor Michael O’Brien at the Log Cabin.
All victim survivors of homicide are invited to attend.
