Deputies: Man shot self after confession

WEST UNION, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in southern Ohio say a man who admitted killing a neighbor has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to a 911 call shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday and found the body of 27-year-old Dallas Schumacher in the driveway of his home near West Union.

Deputies say across the street, 26-year-old Joseph Sapp had set fire to his home and was sitting on his porch when they arrived.

An investigator’s report says Sapp confessed shooting Schumacher, then shot himself in the head after telling deputies not to come near him.

A sheriff’s spokesman says Sapp died later at University Hospital in Cincinnati.

West Union is 57 miles southeast of Cincinnati.
