Yo. Christian rolls to 43-7 win over ESC rival

CANFIELD — Randy Triplett scored one touchdown and passed for two others as Youngstown Christian evened its record at 2-2 with a 43-7 win over Ashtabula Sts. John and Paul Saturday night.

Triplett got the Eagles off to a 20-0 first quarter lead as he passed 11 yards to Eddie Gonda and ran 16 yards for another score.

Gonda also caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Triplett, while Carlen Sims ran for two other scores on a 5-yard run and then raced 30 yards with a fumble recovery.

Victor Shaw scored the final Eagles touchdown on a 7-yard run. Gonda also booted an 18-yard field goal on the final play of the first half, that was set up by a 35-yard pass from Triplett to Anthony LaGamba with one second remaining on the clock.

Triplett connected on 10 of 14 passes for 194 yards and also ran 10 times for 82 yards. Shaw led the Eagles’ rushers with 100 yards on nine carries. LaGamba caught four passes for 93 yards.

YCS coach Brian Marrow praised the play of LaGamba.

“He not only made some great catches, but he also came up with the big hit that caused the fumble that Sims returned for a touchdown. He did an outstanding job blocking also,” Marrow said.

The Eagles had two interceptions in the game, both by Dante Yanno.
