Salem girls second at Malone Invitational


Boardman’s boys placed sixth at the invitational.

CANTON — The Salem High girls took second place with 72 points in the Division II run Saturday at the 39th Malone College Invitational cross country meet.

The Quakers were led by Lauren Shivers (20:28), who finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run. She was followed in eighth place by teammate Sarah Yerkey (20:29).

Other Salem finishers were Liz Shivers (20:54), Betsy Yuhaniak (21:16) and Alexis Thorne (21:41) who placed 14th, 22nd and 26th, respectively.

Katie Gillespie (19:02) won the run as she led Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy to the title with 49 points.

Boardman girls eighth

Mason captured the Div. I crown with 69 points. Boardman was eighth with 257, while Fitch (425) placed 18th and Canfield (477) 20th.

Massillon Jackson’s Emily Pritt (18:17) placed first. Boardman’s Lauren Agnew (20:02) finished 12th. The Spartans’ Katie Heney (20:29) and Tricia Haff (21:25) were 23rd and 47th.

Shannon Rech (21:13) of Fitch and Nicole Tibero (21:32) of Canfield were 36th and 52nd.

In Div. III Waterloo won the crown with 71 points. Stephanie Morgan (19:36) of Barnesville took first place in the run, while Stephanie Case (21:53) of Columbiana placed seventh.

Boardman boys sixth

Boardman’s boys placed sixth with 162 points. Canfield was 15th with 389 and Fitch was 16th with 428.

Zach Wills (15:48) of Mason finished first in the run, while Boardman’s Matt Moore (16:44), Sam Deskin (17:03) and Ryan Westfall (17:22) were 16th, 20th and 30th.

Crestwood was team champion in Div. II with 97 points. Salem (465) placed 19th. Daniel Jackisch (16:13) took first place in the run.

Tony Migliozzi (16:27) took first place as he led St. Thomas Aquinas to the Div. III title with 22 points. Lisbon was 10th with 263.

Niles Invitational

NILES — Alex Begezda (22:03) placed fifth in leading the Poland High girls to victory with 49 points in the Niles Invitational.

Lakeside’s Karena Sezawich (21:02) placed first.

Howland’s Aaron Hutton (17:37) first place in the boys run, but Jefferson won the team title with 33 points. Poland was second with 72.

Lordstown Invitational

LORDSTOWN — Jacob DiEugenio (17:34) finished second in leading Lordstown to the boys title with 41 points in the Lordstown Invitational. Mineral Ridge’s Joshua Palmer (17:23) won the boys individual title. Warren JFK’s Audrey Maheu (19:20) set a course and meet record in the girls run. Ellie Stoffer (21:39) took fourth place in leading South Range to the team title with 45 points.
