Chevy Centre to be site
of Job Expo 2007

YOUNGSTOWN — Job Expo 2007 will be from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Chevrolet Centre. Admission is free for job seekers.

It will feature companies with jobs in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Lawrence and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania, plus schools and training organizations with information on career training.

Workshops will include: “First Impressions,” designed help job seekers with résumés and interviewing skills; “Jobs — What’s Hot, Understanding Today’s and Tomorrow’s Job Market,” providing information on today’s labor market; and “Starting Your Own Business,” aimed at the budding entrepreneur.

The “Jobs” workshop will be presented at 1 and 3 p.m. while “First Impressions” will be offered at 2 p.m. and “Start Your Own Business” at 3 p.m.

Job Expo 2007 is hosted by the One Stops of Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana Counties along with the Regional Chamber, East Liverpool Area Chamber of Commerce, Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and City of Youngstown.

Job seekers are urged to preregister at www.onestopohio.org. Preregistration will speed entrance to the event. Job seekers should bring a number of résumés and be prepared to interview.

Tubetech hits 705 days
for employee safety

EAST PALESTINE — Tubetech, a steel tubing company, recently marked 705 days without an employee missing work because of an accident.

“Our employees have recognized that safety is everyone’s responsibility,” said Rick Shafer, plant manager. “It has become a way of life at Tubetech, instilled a new sense of vigilance and lead to increased productivity.”

To recognize Tubetech’s employee efforts, company executives hosted an appreciation day picnic. The company has about 40 hourly employees.

“It took a team effort of workers and management successfully creating a safe, healthy and productive work environment. It’s labor-management cooperation at its best,” said Ron Ogg, president of the United Steelworkers local at the plant.

Tubetech supplies electric welded steel tubing for the automotive and appliance industries in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Seminar to offer
smart-mailing tips

CANFIELD — Mayor Jay Williams will speak at a seminar Oct. 24 that will offer tips for mailing smarter. It will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mill Creek Park’s McMahon Hall, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Three workshops offered by the Steel Valley Postal Consumer Council promise postage savings and increased efficiency in mailing preparation. The council will hold workshops on preparing bulk mailings, using USPS Web site tools to save money and eligibility requirements for non-profit mail.

The $15 registration cost includes continental breakfast. To register, enclose name, company name and contact information with a $15 check in a letter to Steel Valley PCC, P.O. Device is developed
for water stabilization

YOUNGSTOWN — Damien Lieggi of Youngstown has developed a water sterilization device, according to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. The patent was assigned to Next Energy Wave Inc. of Youngstown.
