Move Over Broadway
opens with a parody

CANFIELD — Move Over Broadway Productions will open its season this weekend with the courtroom-drama parody “Sandbag, Stage Left or One Dead Dolly.”

The comedy follows up the death of a community theater diva, who was hit by a falling sandbag during a performance of “Hello, Dolly.” Her wimpy undertaker husband, Arnold Meddle (Mike Sobota of Salem), has been accused of the crime and brought to trial. The mud-slinging begins when Defense Attorney Static (Glenn Stevens of Poland) and Prosecutor Cling (Regina Reynolds of Poland) present their cases to Judge Roy L. Been (Tom Hathhorn of Canfield). One by one, various community theater types take the stand to testify in a nutty parade of witnesses.

Rounding out the cast are Wendy Persson, Liberty; JoAnne Santagata, Poland; Philip Clark, Poland; Fred Weibel, Alliance; Sue Vollmar, Salem; Jessica Persson, Liberty; Keri Jennings, Canfield; Nick Opritza, Struthers; Pam Weibel, Alliance; Patricia Fagan, Youngstown; Tom Gent, Austintown; and John Amer, Canfield. The director is Marlene Menaldi Strollo, with Cherry Marsh serving as stage manager.

“Sandbag Stage Left” will be staged Friday and Saturday and Oct. 5 and 6 with dinner at 6:45 p.m. and curtain at 8 p.m.; and Sept. 30 with brunch at 12:15 p.m. and curtain at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. Show-only tickets are $12. For reservations, call (330) 533-8789. All performances are held in the St. Michael Social Hall, Route 46, Canfield.
