McDonald not deterred by power outage


McDONALD — Matt Krumpak passed for 147 yards and three touchdowns and Alex Sampson scored twice in McDonald’s 63-0 win over Sebring.

The game was completed Saturday afternoon after being suspended by a power outage Friday night.

McDonald had a 14-0 lead when the game was interrupted.

Sampson, a junior, finished with 109 yards on nine carries for the Blue Devils (4-1, 2-0 ITCL Tier Two).

Krumpak hit Mike Thomas for two TD catches and Corey Lunn for another tally via air.

The Blue Devils scored within 14 seconds in the third quarter when Krumpak and Thomas connected on a 21-yard pass at 7:36.

On the first play after the kickoff, Adrien Tillery’s 24-yard interception return set up Nick Cupan’s 11-yard TD run at 7:22.

Steve Beda made nine point-after kicks.

Joe Witkoski, Devon Colburn and Zack Tura also scored for the winners, who outgained Sebring, 370-63.

Sebring’s Tyler Rhinehart had 32 yards rushing, while Kyle Mannah completed six of 15 for 60 yards for the Trojans (1-4, 0-2).

BOARDMAN — Sal Battles raced 40 yards to a touchdown with seven minutes left in the game to lift East over Cleveland Heights Saturday night at Boardman High Stadium.

Battles’ score lifted East (4-1) from a 13-12 deficit.

Battles also scored another TD on a 2-yard run and finished with 156 yards rushing in 23 carries.

East’s other TD came on Anthony Robinson’s 15-yard run in third quarter that gave the Panthers a 12-6 lead.

Gary Thornton also led East with 11 yards rushing in 14 carries.

Quarterback Kelce Travis led Cleveland Heights (2-3) with two TD passes of 36 yards to Brian Underwood and 30 yards to Dom Daniel. Travis wound up with 17-for-26 passing for 191 yards.
