BOARDMAN BOOSTERS Hall of Fame \Introduction of the Boardman Boosters 28th Hall of Fame will take place at halftime of the football game, Sept. 28 at Boardman Stadium. The inductees:


Jeff Austin (1988-Baseball) holds the all-time single-season batting average record his senior year (.532). A two-year letterman, he was named first team All-SVC at second base and selected to play in the OHSAA All-Ohio series at Ohio State University. He also lettered in football as a running back and defensive back.

Dave Bobosky (1978 cross country and track) was a long distance runner four years for Boardman in the mid-1970s. He made the All-SVC team three times in cross country and twice in track. He specialized in the mile and two-run and placed fifth in the two-mile run in the U.S. National Meet in 1977.

Sara Dickson Hudgens (1991-Tennis) — One of Boardman High’s all-time tennis greats, she qualified four times for district and regional play and was selected all-state four years in a row.

Greg Krieger (1972 contributor) — The name of Greg Krieger has grown to be associated with Boardman Community Baseball for the last 15 years, part of a lifelong role in Boardman as a youth and BHS player, coach, and area-wide supporter and volunteer. He was an All-SVC catcher and team MVP as a senior for the Spartans in 1972.

Mary Valley Alcorn (1991 Basketball) — She was a four-year starter for the Spartans and a three-time All-Steel Valley Conference selection. She made the all-district team three years and was named all-state honorable mention as a senior. She helped lead Boardman to the 1991 district title. Alcorn also ran track four years.

Ron Flauto (1988 Football) — He captained the 1987 Boardman football team that finished second in the Division I playoffs. A three-year letterman, he was voted the team’s defensive back of the year and was a first-team All-Steel Valley and all-NEO selection. He also wrestled for the Spartans, named Most Improved Wrestler as a sophomore and was team captain as a junior as well as an All-EOWL and All-SVC choice.

Garry Smith (Contributor) — He recently completed a 38-year career at Boardman High, which began the same year the current high school building opened. He has the distinction of being the only head coach in Boardman High history to win Steel Valley Conference championships in three different sports: football (1997-98, 2000); baseball and softball (1994). His coaching experience included time spent at middle school, ninth grade, junior varsity and varsity levels and also as a rifle team coach.

Brad Barringer (1987-Football) — A three-sport athlete at Boardman High, he earned eight varsity letters, two in football and three each in basketball and baseball. A quarterback, he led the Spartans to a 9-1 record in 1985 and a 8-2 record in 1986, leading the SVC in passing completion percentage and was voted the Spartans’ Most Valuable Offensive Back. He was chosen All-SVC in football and baseball.

Tod Burkert (1982—Football) — A three-year letterman, he was a wide receiver for quarterback Bernie Kosar, with eight touchdown catches and 800 receiving yards in 1981. He was also a two-year letterman in basketball and baseball for the Spartans. He was named All-SVC second team his senior year and honorable mention all-state. The Spartans’ centerfielder as a junior and senior, he averaged .300 and led the team in stolen bases both years.

Stan Garver (1969—Basketball) — When Boardman High basketball coach Allan Burns began to build his program in the late 1960s, Garver was on of his key players. A three-year letterman, he was named co-captain his senior year and was chosen first team All-SVC. During his four-year career, he played center, forward and guard for the Spartans.
