Akron overcomes Kent St. with 17-point rally, 27-20

AKRON — Carlton Jackson ran for a touchdown and passed for another, and Akron scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to rally to beat Kent State 27-20 Saturday.

Eugene Jarvis had TD runs of 5 and 1 yards to give Kent (2-2, 0-1 MAC) a 14-7 lead early in the third quarter, and Nate Reed kicked field goals of 22 and 42 yards. Jarvis finished with 159 yards on 28 carries.

Akron (2-2, 1-0) was penalized 10 times for 98 yards and had just 245 yards total offense, compared with 375 for Kent State. But the Golden Flashes lost a pair of fumbles inside the Akron 31, and a pass by Julian Edelman was intercepted by Davanzo Tate (Austintown Fitch) at the Akron 1 as time ran out.

Edelman was 8-of-21 for 155 yards passing and ran for 65 yards on 20 carries.

Igor Iveljic kicked field goals of 22 and 43 yards for Akron, the last one coming midway through the final quarter after Reed’s 42-yard connection had pulled Kent within 4 at 24-20.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Sam Keller’s fourth touchdown pass finally put Nebraska in the lead with 3:13 left in the game, and the Cornhuskers survived an upset bid.

The Cardinals moved in position to win the game in the final seconds, but Jake Hogue’s 55-yard field goal attempt was wide left, allowing Cornhuskers fans everywhere to breathe a sigh of relief.

Bowling Green 48, Temple 35

BOWLING GREEN — Tyler Sheehan threw for 351 yards and four touchdowns to lead Bowling Green.

The two teams entered halftime tied at 21, but the Falcons (2-1, 1-2 Mid American Conference) scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter to distance themselves from the Owls (0-4, 0-2).

Colorado 42, Miami (Ohio) 0

BOULDER, Colo. — Cody Hawkins threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Colorado Buffaloes broke a two-game skid.

Daniel Raudabaugh completed 11 of 32 passes for 95 yards in his first start of the season for Miami. He had come off the bench the past two games to relieve Mike Kokal (Warren Harding), who has a thumb injury.

E. Michigan 38, Howard 15

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Andy Schmitt threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns Saturday, leading Eastern Michigan.

Wyoming 34, Ohio 33

ATHENS — Devin Moore rushed for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Karsten Sween passed for two more as Wyoming rallied to beat Ohio.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Tyler Roehl ran for 143 yards on 30 carries with three touchdowns for North Dakota State.

Northern Illinois 42, Idaho 35

MOSCOW, Idaho — Justin Anderson led NIU (1-3) with 167 yards on 35 carries and a touchdown. Huskies quarterback Dan Nicholson went 10-for-17 and a pair of touchdown passes.
