Report: Man beaten with a baseball bat

YOUNGSTOWN — Residents on West Boston Avenue reported a man’s being beaten with a baseball bat.

The incident occurred about 11 a.m. Thursday.

When police arrived, they found the man, John Houser Sr., 43, of Cornell Street, bleeding from the face with a possible broken arm.

Police found out he was riding in a car with two other men and planning to buy radio equipment. The assailants stopped in the 600 block of Parkcliff Avenue to show the victim the items.

When they got out of the car, one of the assailants grabbed a baseball bat, said that the victim stole something and began beating him with the bat.

During the beating, the two men stole $120 from the victim. He tried to flee but was caught behind a house in the 600 block of West Boston where the beating continued until neighbors called police.

The victim was in stable condition Friday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
