Man guilty of raping child since boy was 5

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — A jury in Bellefontaine has convicted a 51-year-old man of repeatedly raping a child over nearly a decade.

Eric VanVoorhis was found guilty Friday of 10 counts of rape in Logan County Common Pleas Court.

Prosecutors say the rapes began in 1994 when the boy was 5 and continued into his teen years.

In a secret recording made by the victim and played at the trial, VanVoorhis expresses regret for his actions and calls the rapes a demon he would have to live with for life.

Sentencing for VanVoorhis is scheduled for Oct. 29. Seven of the 10 counts carrying a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
