J-M Board hosts Homestead Exemption meeting Tuesday

NORTH JACKSON — Jackson-Milton Board of Education is inviting residents of Craig Beach, North Jackson and Lake Milton to a special informational meeting, set for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the elementary school library, 14110 Mahoning Ave.

Mahoning County Auditor Michael Sciortino will give a presentation and answer questions pertaining to the updated Homestead Exemption Act.

The act provides eligible people a tax exemption on the first $25,000 of appraised value of a single-family dwelling, explained Mitch Mascioli, board president.

Those eligible for the exemption include people 65 or older, as well as those of any age who are totally or permanently disabled. The exemption covers a person’s primary residence only, Mascioli said. Residents have until Oct. 1 to apply for the exemption.
