Columbus settles suit in accident
COLUMBUS (AP) — Lawyers representing the city of Columbus have tentatively agreed to a $225,000 settlement with the estate of a woman who was struck by a fire engine as she walked on a downtown street.
Thirty-eight-year-old Michelle Dailey was hit while heading to a doctor’s appointment in September 2005.
She died 11 days later. Her family sued the city for negligence.
Assistant city attorney Glenn Redick says the agreement was reached Wednesday, less than a week before the lawsuit was scheduled for trial.
He says the city still believes the firefighter driving the truck did nothing wrong.
The settlement becomes official once it’s approved by the city council and the Franklin County Probate Court.
