Columbiana rolls behind Hertel, Williams, 24-10


NEW MIDDLETOWN — Josh Hertel and Ryan Williams combined for 318 yards of offense, leading Columbiana High to a 24-10 victory over Springfield, in an Inter Tri-County League Tier One game Friday night.

Williams rushed 29 times for 100 yards and a touchdown, and completed 6-of-13 passes for 85 yards.

Hertel gained 133 yards on 19 carries and scored a pair of TDs, including the Clippers’ go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter.

The score was tied at 3-3 through three quarters before Hertel scored from the 4 on the first play of the final period. Hertel added a 40-yard run with 1:40 remaining as the Clippers improved to 4-1, 2-0.

Nate Schuler completed 19-of-38 passes for 238 yards, and he scored the Tigers’ touchdown on a 5-yard run with 5:29 that made it 17-10.

Brandon Goist caught 10 passes for 141 yards, and Ron Snyder and Jarrod Lewis had interceptions for the Tigers (0-5, 0-2).

HANOVERTON — Quarterback Joey Miller complete 5-of-8 passes for 113 yards, three of them were Touchdown passes to Ken Mazurkiewicz for 27 and 37 yards and to Jon McRoberts for 44 yards.

The unbeaten Rams (5-0, 2-0) handed United its third loss in five outings and it is 0-2 in Inter-Tri-County League Tier One.

EAST PALESTINE — The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1) scored a touchdown in each of the first three quarters against the Blue Devils (2-3, 1-1) In the Inter-Tr-County League Tier Two game.

Tommy Powers caught a 62-yard touchdown pass from George Smith and he also scored on a 2-yard run for the Bulldogs. Aaron Householder scored on a 2-yard run.

East Palestine had 271 yards of total offense and Lisbon had 197.
