Brookfield, LaBrae are TAC winners

NEWTON FALLS — Dave Nehlen of Brookfield High gained 50 yards on 13 carries and he scored on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs to lead the Warriors to a 28-14 victory over Newton Falls in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game Friday night.

Nehlen also threw a 44-yard TD pass to Devin O’Brien for the Warriors (4-1, 1-1 TAC).

Tamir Grogan caught a 44-yard TD pass from Brian Sole and Grogan also scored from 1 yard out to pace the Tigers (1-4, 0-2).

LEAVITTSBURG — Brian Watkins’ 2-yard scoring dash and Andrew Ozanich’s extra-point kick in the second quarter enabled LaBrae to hold off Champion, as the Flashes failed to tie the TAC game in the final quarter after scoring a TD.

Kristopher Wildman raced 11 yards to the Champion TD to cut the deficit to 7-6, but the kick failed and doomed the Flashes.

Cameron Truss led LaBrae (3-2, 1-1 TAC) by rushing for 94 yards in 27 carries.

Joe Cvengros sparked Champion (3-2, 0-2 TAC) with 12-for-21 passing for 113 yards, while Kristopher Wildman contributed 65 yards rushing in 21 attempts.
